SICKLE SCALERS are a type of hand-held dental scaler used to remove tartar, plaque, and other debris from teeth. They are also known as hand scalers, manual scalers, or ultrasonic scalers. 

The most common type of sickle scaler is the universal sickle, which has a curved blade that tapers to a point. This design allows the scaler to reach all areas of the tooth, including under the gumline.

When using a sickle scaler, it is important to hold the instrument at a 45-degree angle to the tooth surface and use gentle back-and-forth strokes. too much pressure can damage the tooth enamel or irritate the gums.
